TRIGGER POINT INJECTIONS
TRIGGER POINT INJECTIONS
TRIGGER POINT INJECTIONS
If a small, ferocious knot in your neck or back, also known as a trigger point, is causing pain, frozen muscles, or spine misalignment, a trigger point shot can relieve your symptoms. During the procedure, local anesthetics are injected into the tight ball of spasming muscle tissue to help it relax and provide instantaneous relief.
VARICOSE VEINS
Varicose veins are twisted, enlarged veins. Any veins in the body may become varicose, but the veins most commonly affected are those in your legs and feet. There are many factors that can cause varicose veins to develop, including family history, pregnancy, overexposure to the sun, and standing or sitting for long periods of time.
At Montville MedSpa & Pain Center, we utilize the most advanced technology that involves little to no downtime or discomfort to treat varicose veins.
Varithena®
At Montville MedSpa & Pain Center, we can use Varithena® to treat the symptoms of superficial venous reflux disease. This treatment is great for enhancing the effects of thermal treatment and reaching veins that other treatments cannot.
Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA)
At Montville MedSpa & Pain Center, we use radiofrequency ablation (RFA) to treat varicose veins that can be unsightly and painful. RFA is a minimally invasive alternative to eliminate abnormal veins, redirect blood flow to healthy veins, and relieve discomfort.
At Montville MedSpa & Pain Center, we are passionate about helping people feel their best, so that they can live a fulfilling life, free of pain. We treat a broad range of pain conditions and believe in evaluating all components of each patient’s health in order to offer the most comprehensive, personalized care possible.
MIGRAINES
Migraines can be debilitating, and when you suffer from chronic migraines, you don’t want to simply mask the pain — you want to prevent it. Specializing in pain management that can stop migraines before they begin, Montville MedSpa & Pain Center can provide the BOTOX® solution you have been looking for.
BOTOX® treatment for migraines works by blocking certain neurotransmitters that are known to cause head pain. The injection, which typically takes less than 10 minutes, can be administered in your doctor’s office or at home. In most cases, headache relief lasts up to three months.
BOTOX® can be helpful for adults with chronic migraines, meaning 15+ days a month during which a headache is experienced for four or more hours.
NECK & BACK PAIN
Some of the most common causes of back and neck pain include poor posture, an improper sleep position, injury, overexertion, and pre-existing medical conditions. While daily stretching and light exercise can help ease slight discomfort or prevent future pain episodes, addressing neck and back pain with your doctor is extremely important.
At Montville MedSpa and Pain Center, we take a comprehensive approach to reliving temporary or chronic neck and back pain with the latest treatments and techniques.
If you suffer from chronic pain, non-opioid medications are a safe, effective alternative to opioids that don’t have the same addictive properties.
At Montville MedSpa & Pain Center, we help identify the proper non-opioid medication for your pain condition and will help you develop a plan to monitor your medication use and ensure you are getting the best results possible.
We conduct monthly appointments to follow up on the progression of your physical therapy sessions and can also provide physical therapy prescriptions for those in need of referrals.

At Montville MedSpa & Pain Center, we use ultrasound imaging to identify nerves near the area of pain. We then inject numbing agents into the targeted nerve to interrupt or block the transmission of pain signals.
JOINT PAIN
Whether it is caused by a sports injury or years of wear and tear, joint pain can significantly impact your daily routine. As experts in total-body wellness, Dr. Donna D’Alessio and the team at Montville MedSpa & Pain Center want to help you solve joint pain problems before they require invasive procedures.
Depending on your diagnosis, our team may recommend a variety of treatments, such as strengthening exercises, stretching, pain management shots, and injections to increase lubrication in your joint.

Hyaluronic acid is a lubricating substance made of molecules similar to your body’s naturally-occurring synovial fluid, which fills your joint sacs and allows for easy, friction-free movement. These cutting-edge shots are inserted directly into the joint, so that the cushioning effect provides relief where you need it most.
At Montville MedSpa & Pain Center, we use ORTHOVISC® Hyaluronan to alleviate knee pain caused by osteoarthritis. ORTHOVISC® is a non-avian sourced hyaluronic acid injection therapy which can provide pain relief with 3 t0 4 injections.* Hyaluronic acid injection therapy has fewer side effects and risks compared to invasive surgical procedures.

Steroid injections, also called corticosteroid injections, are anti-inflammatory medicines used to treat a range of conditions. They can be used to treat problems, including joint pain, arthritis, sciatica, tendonitis, and bursitis.
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy harnesses the blood’s natural healing properties to repair damaged cartilage, tendons, ligaments, and muscles. PRP is known for its ability to alleviate pain caused by osteoarthritis and other degenerative joint problems. During PRP therapy, the platelet-rich plasma is injected directly into the affected joint to help relieve pain, improve joint function, and slow or, in some cases, repair damage.
A bursa is a fluid-filled sac that helps cushion the bones and joints from friction. Bursitis is an inflammation of the bursa, which can result in stiffness, swelling, and, if left untreated, worsening symptoms overtime.
We perform Ultrasound Guided Bursa Injections to inject corticosteroids into the area to reduce inflammation caused by bursitis and provide pain relief. The procedure typically takes 15 to 30 minutes, and many patients report feeling better after their first injection. Results can last several months to one year.
At Montville MedSpa & Pain Center, we use ultrasound imaging to identify nerves near the area of pain. We then inject numbing agents into the targeted nerve to interrupt or block the transmission of pain signals.
In this procedure, we use an ultrasound machine to guide us to the optimal joint placement, and then inject corticosteroids or another medication directly into the joint space. This treatment can be extremely effective in relieving pain and restoring function. If you suffer from chronic joint pain and have struggled to find relief with medication or physical therapy, contact us today to see if Ultrasound Guided Joint Injections are right for you!
NEUROPATHY
Nerves are the wiring that makes the body function. Because of this, a pinched, inflamed, or damaged nerve can trigger issues in a completely different part of the body, making it difficult to diagnose the cause of pain. Oftentimes, chronic pain is caused by underlying conditions like arthritis, diabetes, peripheral nerve disease, or spinal issues (i.e. a compressed nerve from disc herniations, degenerative changes, or traumatic injury).
At Montville MedSpa & Pain Center, our expert physiatrists can carry out electromyography (EMG) and nerve conduction studies (NCS) to determine the exact source of tingling, numbness, and pain. Once we pinpoint the cause of your pain, we will create a custom treatment plan and get you on the right track to pain-free living.
Symptoms an EMG/NCV helps to diagnose include:
- Chronic pain
- Numbness
- Tingling
- Weakness
Electromyography (EMG) and Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS) are types of diagnostic nerve tests used to pinpoint injury. These tests determine if muscles and nerves respond properly to stimulation.
At Montville MedSpa & Pain Center, our physiatrists, including Dr. D’Alessio, use EMG/NCS as a tool to determine what is causing pain, numbness, tingling, and/or weakness. EMG/NCS test nerve pathways and electrical signals in the body. Electric signals from your brain travel through neurons to move muscles. The test will identify any issues in the wiring of the nerve pathways or in the signal creator itself.
EMG/NCS are also useful for determining proper treatment options.
TMJ
Approximately 12% of Americans suffer from TMJ (temporomandibular joint) disorders. TMJ is a condition that affects the joint that connects your lower jawbone to your skull and can cause pain and discomfort. In addition to pain or tenderness in the jaw joint itself, other symptoms may include: earaches, headaches, neck pain, difficulty chewing, and teeth grinding.
BOTOX® for TMJ involves injections into the jaw muscles, forehead, and temples depending on your symptoms. The injections will limit the function of the jaw muscles, which can result in pain relief and decreased TMJ symptoms. After a few months, the results will wear off and require additional injections for continuous relief.
