Three changes, one weekly shot
Montville MedSpa & Pain Center prescribes two weight-loss medicines after a medical consultation. Semaglutide imitates GLP-1, a hormone your gut releases after a meal. Tirzepatide works on GLP-1 too, and on a second receptor called GIP. Rather than list their chemistry, it can be more useful to describe what each one changes in the body, because those changes are what you feel from day to day — and each one is something your plan is built to use.
Change one: hunger turns down
What you may notice. Fullness arrives sooner and cravings lose some of their pull, so meals you used to finish start to feel like too much.
How the plan uses it. A quieter appetite is the moment to build better habits, which is why your prescription comes with dietary recommendations rather than on its own. Protein at each meal also helps protect muscle while the weight comes down.
Change two: the stomach empties more slowly
What you may notice. Feeling full for longer after eating. This slower digestion is also behind the commonest side effects — nausea, and sometimes diarrhea — which are usually temporary.
How the plan uses it. Doses are increased gradually, and your check-ins are where side effects are reviewed and the plan is adjusted. Smaller, plainer meals are often easier while your body gets used to it. A mild reaction where the needle went in, such as redness or swelling, is also possible; allergic reactions are rare.
Change three: blood sugar steadies
What it means. Both medicines help regulate blood sugar as well as appetite, so they act on your metabolism and not only on how much you want to eat.
How the plan uses it. Because the effect reaches beyond the plate, your full health picture and any medicines you already take are reviewed before either one is prescribed, and again as the plan goes on.
What you bring to it
The injections suit adults whose BMI places them in the overweight or obese range and who have struggled to lose weight through diet and exercise alone. There is a third condition, just as important: being committed to a healthier lifestyle. The medicine makes that commitment easier to keep up; it does not replace it. Exercise guidance is part of every plan, and your history is checked for anything that would rule a medicine out.
From West Orange to your check-ins
Regular in-person check-ins are how your dose and progress are reviewed, so the trip matters. Take I-280 west to the New Road exit, then Changebridge Road north until it meets Route 202: about 25 minutes and 15 miles without traffic.
West Orange patients ask
Which of the two will I get? That is decided at your consultation, after a look at your health, your goals and your history. Read how semaglutide and tirzepatide compare.
What if I want to stop one day? Raise it at a check-in well before you do. What happens when you stop explains why planning ahead matters.
Is this only a prescription? No — it is a medicine paired with eating advice, exercise guidance and regular monitoring by our medical team.
