The land of sassafras

Wanaque’s name is thought to come from a Lenape word meaning “land of sassafras.” The borough was formed on February 23, 1918, one of three, with Bloomingdale and Ringwood, created when the old Pompton Township was divided. It takes in Haskell, Midvale and a scatter of lakes, water makes up more than a tenth of its area, and Haskell still keeps a post office and ZIP code of its own. Montville MedSpa & Pain Center is a straight run south of the borough, at 624 Main Road in the Towaco section of Montville Township.

One interchange, one exit

The borough has its own interchange on I-287, Exit 55, beside the junction of Union and Ringwood Avenues. Head south to Exit 47, signed for Route 202, Montville and Lincoln Park, then turn right onto Main Road; our office is a little over a mile and a half along at number 624. OpenStreetMap’s routing puts the whole trip at about eleven and a half miles, close to 16 minutes without traffic.

Making one trip count

Because everything here is under one roof, it is easy to fit two things into a single visit. A few rules from the practice’s own aftercare decide how they combine:

• Botox or Dysport with a facial or massage. A treated area should not be massaged for 24 hours, so tell your esthetician or therapist where you were injected.
• Filler on the same day as something else. Hands stay off the treated area for three to six hours and hard exercise waits a day or two, so mention the filler before anything else is planned around it.
• A HydraFacial with almost anything. It has no downtime, so there is nothing to wait out on either side.
• A pain appointment and a massage. Patients already in pain management here can book a massage in the same office.
• Laser hair removal. Shave the area a few days beforehand, and leave the wax and tweezers alone for six weeks before your session.

Who you will meet

The practice was founded by Dr. Donna D’Alessio, MD, board certified in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, who trained at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City and now leads the pain care and the injector team. Nurse practitioners Amy Natalicchio and Tanya Santoro inject alongside her, Tanya with a particular interest in testosterone therapy. Licensed medical estheticians Kristen Marucci and Shannon Glinsky take care of skin, laser and body treatments, and Maryann Constantino, LMT is the massage therapist.

Wanaque patients ask

Is the hormone program only for women? No. Men with lab-confirmed low testosterone are treated alongside women in perimenopause, menopause and the years after.

When is the office open? Weekdays from 9, except Tuesday, which runs from 10 until 7; Friday closes at 4 and the other weekdays at 5, and Saturday hours are 9 to 1.
