Both halves of one program
At Montville MedSpa & Pain Center, hormone replacement therapy is for men as well as for women. A man whose lab work shows low testosterone is treated with testosterone replacement therapy (TRT). A woman in perimenopause, menopause or the years beyond is treated with estrogen and progesterone. Once people know that, the next questions are usually practical ones, so this page starts there.
The practical questions
How many visits is it? More than one, by design. There is a consultation in our Towaco office with lab work, a plan built from your results, and then repeat labs and in-person reviews for as long as you are on therapy, so the dose can move when your levels do.
What will it cost? That depends on how you take it, the dose and how often you are treated, because injections and topical therapy are priced differently. Your provider sets out the full cost of your own plan at the consultation, and payment options are available.
Will insurance help? Coverage differs a great deal between plans. Some cover lab testing and certain prescription hormones; others may not cover compounded preparations. Your insurer can confirm, and our team can tell you what is likely to be billable and what you would pay yourself.
How soon would I notice anything? Energy, mood and sleep often begin to shift within two to four weeks. Libido, body composition and mental clarity usually take two to three months, as your levels settle into a steady range.
Is it for life? Not necessarily. Some people use it through one stage, such as menopause, and then taper off; others choose to continue. The plan is reviewed regularly, and the choice stays yours.
What the first visit covers
You describe what has changed, whether that is sleep, energy, weight, mood, focus or sex drive, and give a full history. A personal or family history of hormone-sensitive cancer, blood clots or certain heart and blood-vessel conditions can make therapy unsafe, so those questions come early. Nothing is prescribed until your levels are measured, and if hormones turn out not to be the cause, you hear that plainly.
Who oversees it
Each plan is the responsibility of Dr. Donna D’Alessio, MD, founder and owner of the practice, whose board certification is in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. Nurse practitioner Tanya Santoro, NP-C, with more than 20 years in nursing and a Master of Science in Adult Health Nursing from Fairleigh Dickinson University, specializes in hormone therapy, testosterone in particular.
Getting here
Ridgedale Avenue takes you up to Route 10, and Parsippany Road leads on to I-287 north. Exit 47 drops you onto Route 202, which is Main Road in Towaco; turn left and number 624 is about a mile and a half along. Allow about 21 minutes without traffic.
East Hanover patients ask
Is it done by video? No. Consultations and reviews are face to face.
Injection or cream? Both are offered. An injection allows precise, adjustable dosing; a cream or gel suits a daily routine.
When can I come? Tuesdays until 7 pm and Saturdays from 9 am to 1 pm, as well as weekday hours.

What Our Patients Say About Us
★★★★★
I have been to see Dr. D'Alessio over the past 5 years. I especially drive for over an hour, she and her whole office are simply the BEST! She has done my leg veins, Botox and now I see her for my GLP weight loss treatments, she is truly AMAZING and CARING! She will work with your insurance and help you find the best course of treatment to bring the cost down, if possible. She is always conservative, attentive, kind and has so much patience when listening to your exact needs. I would never go anywhere else. I trust her and her staff fully!
