When skin stops springing back
There comes a point when skin starts to behave differently. A crease from the pillow is still there at lunchtime, foundation settles into lines it never used to find, and the face in the mirror looks drier and duller than you feel. Much of that traces back to collagen, the protein that gives skin its structure and spring, which the body produces less of as the years go by. At Montville MedSpa & Pain Center the treatment made for this stage is the InfraGlow anti-aging facial, the practice’s collagen facial for mature skin.
Inside the treatment room
A licensed medical esthetician starts by studying your skin: its type, how dry or dull it has become, and what you would like it to do. The facial is then put together from steps such as these:
- Cleansing and exfoliation, including a stimulating peel to lift away a tired surface
- Extractions, where congested pores need them
- Massage with collagen-rich creams, followed by a nourishing collagen mask
- Serums that can include hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, antioxidants, peptides and plant stem cells
- Optional extras such as microcurrent, ultrasonic infusion or light therapy, picked for your skin
- Moisturizer and sunscreen to close
You walk out with no downtime. Some temporary redness, dryness or light flaking is possible, so tell your esthetician beforehand about any allergy or sensitivity.
A single visit or a course
One collagen facial gives skin a lift that lasts roughly one to two weeks. For a longer-lasting change, the practice recommends a series of four to six facials, two to four weeks apart, with maintenance visits every four to six weeks afterwards. Your esthetician sets the rhythm once she has seen how your skin answers.
Looking after the result
For a day or two beforehand, stay out of strong sun and set aside any irritating products. In the 24 hours that follow, go without makeup, sun and exercise. For a full week, postpone waxing, peels, laser treatments and retinols, and lean on a gentle cleanser and generous moisturizer.
If a facial is not enough
Some changes sit deeper than a facial can reach. Sun spots and redness answer to Sciton’s BroadBand Light (BBL), which also stimulates collagen, while rough texture and fine lines may need microneedling. Facials here are carried out by licensed medical estheticians Kristen Marucci, with more than 20 years as a skincare specialist, and Shannon Glinsky, who puts together home routines from ZO Skin Health, SkinCeuticals and SkinMedica, in a practice founded by Dr. Donna D’Alessio, MD.
Out of East Hanover
East Hanover occupies the neck of land between the Passaic and Whippany rivers, and Ridgedale Avenue is the way north out of it. Carry on to Route 10, use Parsippany Road to reach I-287 north, and come off at Exit 47; turning left onto Main Road leaves roughly a mile and a half to number 624 in Towaco. Expect around 13 miles and 21 minutes without traffic.
East Hanover clients ask
Is it the same as a HydraFacial? No. The HydraFacial centers on deep cleansing, extraction and hydration, whereas the InfraGlow facial is built for mature skin, with collagen products and options such as microcurrent.
Which skin does it suit? Most skin types, and it is a good match for dry, dehydrated skin and for fine lines, dullness or roughness.
Is Saturday an option? Yes, from 9 in the morning until 1 in the afternoon, and Tuesday appointments run as late as 7.
