Start with the problem, not the menu

Choosing a massage is easier when you begin with what is going on in your body. At Montville MedSpa & Pain Center the three core treatments line up with three quite different situations, and Maryann Constantino, LMT, our licensed massage therapist, shapes each session around what you tell her that day.

Stress you carry in your muscles

If the tension comes from a demanding stretch at work or at home, if you struggle to switch off, or if you simply feel worn down, a Swedish massage of 60 or 90 minutes is usually the place to begin. Its long strokes and gentle pressure encourage circulation and help the body settle into a calmer state, which also makes it a sensible choice for regular, wellness-focused care.

An ache that keeps coming back

When stiffness lingers and begins to limit how you move, deep tissue massage, also 60 or 90 minutes, works more slowly into the deeper muscle and the connective tissue around it. It is often a good fit for people whose days bring repetitive physical demands, such as lifting, yard work or the same motion over and over, and for recovery after certain activities. A little soreness the next day is normal.

Swelling, or recovery from surgery

Lymphatic drainage massage, a 60-minute session, is the gentlest of the three. Its rhythmic technique encourages lymph fluid to move and may help manage certain kinds of swelling or fluid retention, including during recovery from some surgical procedures. An individual assessment decides first whether it is appropriate for you.

When massage is one part of the answer

For some people massage eases muscle tension and discomfort, and for others the cause of the pain needs looking at more closely. In a practice that is also a pain center, a problem that keeps returning can be seen by Dr. Donna D’Alessio, MD, the physician who founded the practice and treats back, neck and joint pain without surgery. Patients already in pain management here can book massage in the same office.

Boonton Township clients ask

How do I get there? Taylortown Road, the Montville continuation of Rockaway Valley Road, ends at Main Road; turn left and drive about two and a half miles to number 624. From the middle of the township that is roughly 15 minutes without traffic.

Can I add something to a session? Yes, each at an additional cost: a craniosacral scalp massage, 30 minutes of trigger point therapy, reflexology, Reiki, hot stones or a CBD oil massage.

Can I come in on a Tuesday evening? Yes. On Tuesdays the office stays open until 7 pm.
