The protein that holds skin up
Collagen is a protein your body makes to give structure to skin, bones and connective tissue. Production falls as the years pass, and the skin begins to sag and crease; sun exposure and smoking hurry that along. A large share of the menu at Montville MedSpa & Pain Center works by persuading the skin to make more of its own collagen, and each treatment does it by a different route.
Six routes to new collagen
- Through products, in a facial. The gentlest route is the InfraGlow anti-aging facial, which the practice’s licensed estheticians carry out with collagen-rich products and serums, cleansing, exfoliation, a mask and a relaxing massage; at most a little temporary redness or dryness may follow.
- Through light. Sciton’s BroadBand Light (BBL) sends pulses of light that go after pigment and stimulate collagen, and texture and firmness improve gradually afterwards, typically with little to no downtime.
- Through laser. Sciton’s MOXI creates controlled microthermal zones that set off the skin’s own healing, raising collagen production and cell turnover. Most people return to daily activities within three to five days.
- Through fine needles. Pen microneedling is collagen induction therapy without heat. Vivace RF microneedling adds radiofrequency energy through 36 gold-plated needles, which also tightens existing collagen fibers.
- Through your own plasma. The PRP “vampire” facial applies platelet-rich plasma from a small sample of your blood during microneedling, and its growth factors support healing and collagen.
- On the body. Venus Legacy heats the tissue with multi-polar radiofrequency to stimulate collagen and elastin, over six to eight sessions a week apart.
Built, not applied
Collagen takes time to form, which is why so many of these results arrive gradually. Vivace is usually planned as three to six treatments four to six weeks apart, then annual maintenance, and the practice notes that the collagen it prompts can keep building for three months or more. With Venus Legacy, improvement continues for weeks after the final session. Judging any of them the day after is too early.
Protecting what you build
A home routine with retinoids and antioxidants supports new collagen. Licensed medical esthetician Shannon Glinsky builds those routines from medical-grade lines such as ZO Skin Health, SkinCeuticals and SkinMedica, and Kristen Marucci brings more than 20 years as a skincare specialist. Both carry out these treatments, and the practice’s lasers and PRP are overseen by its founder, Dr. Donna D’Alessio, MD.
Cedar Grove clients ask
Which one should I start with? That follows from your skin type and what you want to change, so a consultation comes first.
Can volume be rebuilt the same way? Yes, with the injectors: Sculptra stimulates your own collagen beneath the skin, restoring volume gradually.
How do I get there? Route 23 north, Mountainview Boulevard, then Route 202 through Lincoln Park to 624 Main Road in Towaco, about 16 minutes without traffic.
When are you open? Six days a week, with Tuesdays until 7 pm and Saturdays from 9 am to 1 pm.
Every treatment is listed on the MedSpa services page.

What Our Patients Say About Us
★★★★★
I have been to see Dr. D'Alessio over the past 5 years. I especially drive for over an hour, she and her whole office are simply the BEST! She has done my leg veins, Botox and now I see her for my GLP weight loss treatments, she is truly AMAZING and CARING! She will work with your insurance and help you find the best course of treatment to bring the cost down, if possible. She is always conservative, attentive, kind and has so much patience when listening to your exact needs. I would never go anywhere else. I trust her and her staff fully!
