A menu that is not only for women
Men sometimes assume a MedSpa menu was written for somebody else. At Montville MedSpa & Pain Center several treatments were designed with men’s skin and bodies in mind, and most of the rest suit men just as well. Here is what men tend to ask about, and what each treatment actually involves.
Skin
- The Bro Facial. Men’s skin is usually thicker, and this facial is built around that: steam to open the pores, a deep brushing to slough off dead skin, extractions aimed at clogged pores, then a soothing mask.
- The back facial. Regular workouts can leave sweat and congestion where you cannot reach. This treatment uses a diamond-tipped wand for exfoliation, then extractions and a mask chosen for your skin.
Hair, in both directions
- Laser hair removal. Daily shaving can bring razor burn, regrowth by the next morning and ingrown hairs. The laser’s beam is drawn to the pigment in each hair root, and a follicle it has disabled can no longer trap a new hair beneath the skin. With settings customized to your skin and hair it suits every skin tone, and it is booked as a series spaced weeks apart.
- PRP hair restoration. For thinning hair, including male pattern baldness, a small blood sample is spun to concentrate its platelets, and that plasma is injected into the scalp to wake follicles that have gone quiet. The best candidates have mild to moderate loss. A visit takes about 90 minutes, and results often start to show within three to six months.
Body
- CoolSculpting. An applicator uses gentle suction and controlled cooling on fat that diet and exercise have not shifted. Its areas include the flanks and waistline, and the chest, where it contours fatty tissue for a more toned look. It is meant for men already near their ideal weight, not for large-scale weight loss.
- Venus Legacy. Radiofrequency that firms skin and smooths contours, which the practice describes as suited to men and women of all skin types.
Under the same roof
The office also offers hormone therapy for men and women, with testosterone prescribed only when lab work confirms a low level, and Botox and Dysport for forehead lines, frown lines and crow’s feet.
Getting here from Parsippany
Parsippany and Montville Township share a border, so the trip is a short one: I-287 north, then Route 202 into Towaco. That is roughly eight miles, around 11 minutes without traffic, to our office at 624 Main Road.
Parsippany men ask
Who carries out the treatments? Licensed medical estheticians Kristen Marucci and Shannon Glinsky handle the facials, lasers and body treatments, in a practice founded by Dr. Donna D’Alessio, MD, who oversees its laser work.
Is there downtime after PRP for hair? Nothing to plan around, though washing your scalp and hard workouts should wait a day or two. Mild tenderness or swelling on the scalp is possible.
What should I do before laser hair removal? Shave the area a few days ahead, and put away wax and tweezers for six weeks, because the laser needs the root in place.
When can I fit it in? Weekday appointments begin at 9, or at 10 on Tuesdays, when we stay open until 7, and Saturday runs from 9 to 1.
