Leave Main Street on the Paterson-Hamburg Turnpike, join I-287 heading south and take Exit 47, signed for Route 202, Montville and Lincoln Park. Two kinds of line, two different fixes

Before choosing a filler, it helps to know what kind of line you are looking at.

• Lines made by movement. Frown lines, forehead lines and crow’s feet deepen each time a muscle contracts. They respond best to a neurotoxin such as Botox or Dysport, which relaxes the muscle instead of filling anything.
• Lines left by lost volume. As fat and collagen thin with age, folds such as nasolabial folds and marionette lines stay put even when your face is at rest. That is filler territory: a hyaluronic acid (HA) gel placed beneath the skin restores the support that has gone.
• The exceptions. Revanesse Versa was the first HA filler FDA-approved for dynamic wrinkles and folds, and RHA is a pliable gel suited to the parts of the face that never stop moving.

Many faces show both, which is why the two treatments are often combined.

The first two weeks, especially for lips

You will see a change before you leave, but day one is not the finished result; that usually shows once swelling has gone, within days to two weeks. Lips have a dense blood supply and delicate skin, so they swell readily, typically peaking around the second or third day before settling. A few habits help:

• Hold an ice pack wrapped in a thin cloth to the area for short spells, never directly on the skin.
• Sleep on your back with your head raised on extra pillows for the first night or two.
• Keep lipstick and gloss off for at least 24 hours.
• Skip straws for the first few days.
• Stay away from saunas, hot showers, hard workouts and alcohol early on, since heat and a raised heart rate add to swelling.

High-resolution photos may record your starting features at the consultation, and injection points are mapped before treatment so placement is accurate and symmetrical. Only clinically proven, FDA-approved fillers are used.
