From Butler to the massage table
Our massage room sits inside a physician-led practice in Towaco, about ten miles from Butler. The quickest way is the Paterson-Hamburg Turnpike to I-287 south, off at Exit 47, then right along Main Road (Route 202) to number 624. Without traffic it takes around 15 minutes.
Why make it a habit
One massage feels good. The benefits the practice lists for massage, though, are the benefits of regular sessions:
- less stress and anxiety
- relief from chronic muscle pain and tension
- better sleep and circulation
- support for immune function
- easier movement and more flexibility
Choosing the base session
The menu has three massages. Swedish, at 60 or 90 minutes, is a full-body massage of long, flowing strokes meant for unwinding. Deep tissue, also 60 or 90 minutes, works into the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue where tension has set in. Lymphatic drainage, at 60 minutes, is gentle and rhythmic, aimed at moving lymph fluid and easing certain kinds of swelling. If you cannot decide between the first two, our guide to Swedish or deep tissue can help, and you can always settle it with your therapist when you arrive.
The add-ons, one at a time
Each add-on carries an additional cost and is worked into your session rather than booked on its own:
- Scalp massage (craniosacral therapy) concentrates on the head, neck and spine, and is a good fit for stress, headaches or a stiff neck.
- Trigger point therapy (30 minutes) goes after the tight knots in one muscle group, which suits athletes and anyone with a repetitive strain.
- Reflexology applies pressure to points on the feet that correspond to organs and systems of the body.
- Reiki is a gentle, energy-based technique, often paired with massage for relaxation and emotional release.
- Hot stones are smooth and heated, warming tight muscles so they let go more easily.
- CBD oil made from hemp adds a calming element for clients who enjoy it.
Your therapist
Maryann Constantino, LMT is a licensed massage therapist whose work is holistic as well as therapeutic, aimed at physical, mental and spiritual balance. Because she works inside a pain practice led by Dr. Donna D’Alessio, MD, patients already being seen for pain management can add massage to their care without going anywhere else.
Butler clients ask
Can I combine several add-ons? Yes. One or more can be added to the same session, each at its own additional cost.
Could the scalp massage help my headaches? It is designed to release tension in the head, neck and spine and to ease headaches. If migraines are frequent, ask about Botox for chronic migraines, which has its own assessment.
Do I need to be a pain patient to book? No. Massage here is for anyone looking for relaxation, relief from pain, general wellness or support in recovery.
Is there an evening appointment? On Tuesdays, when the office stays open until 7 pm.
