What happens between “yes” and the mirror
Most filler pages talk about results. This one walks through the appointment itself, because knowing what happens in the chair can make the decision easier. At Montville MedSpa & Pain Center every filler treatment is carried out under the supervision of Dr. Donna D’Alessio, a board-certified physician trained in facial anatomy and vascular safety.
Seven steps in one visit
- The plan. A private conversation about what you want changed, your medical history and the structure of your face. Photos may be taken so there is a record of where you started.
- The map. On the day, the points to be treated are marked on your skin so placement is accurate and even on both sides. The skin is then cleansed.
- Numbing. A topical anesthetic cream goes on 15 to 30 minutes ahead. Most modern fillers also contain built-in lidocaine for added comfort.
- Placement. Filler is introduced through a fine needle or a blunt-tipped cannula. Depending on how many areas are involved, this part takes roughly 20 to 45 minutes.
- Shaping. Your provider gently molds the gel so it sits naturally, then checks the symmetry from several angles.
- Movement. The treated areas are worked gently while you smile and frown, so the result moves with your expressions.
- Ice and home. Mild swelling, redness or bruising is normal and usually fades in one to three days; ice packs help with swelling.
Choosing the area
- Cheeks, using Juvéderm Voluma, for lift and projection in the midface
- Jawline and chin, often with Juvéderm Volux, for a sharper lower face without surgery
- Lips, for shape, symmetry and hydration in proportion to the rest of your face
- Tear troughs, a delicate area where hollowness causes shadows and a tired look
- Smile lines and marionette lines, softened while keeping natural movement
The first two days afterwards
Keep your hands off the treated areas for three to six hours. Leave strenuous exercise for 24 to 48 hours, and avoid alcohol, blood-thinning medicines and strong sun for the first 24. A follow-up one to two weeks later may be booked to check the result and touch up if needed.

Is there an age requirement? Our fillers are FDA-approved for patients aged 22 and older.
Who else injects? Nurse practitioners Amy Natalicchio and Tanya Santoro, under Dr. D’Alessio’s supervision.
