Not one treatment, but two programs under one rule
Hormone replacement therapy at Montville MedSpa & Pain Center is offered to men and to women, and the two look different on paper. A man with low testosterone is treated with testosterone replacement therapy (TRT). A woman going through perimenopause, menopause or the years after is treated with estrogen and progesterone. What they share is the rule underneath: nothing is prescribed until your hormones have been measured, and a physician oversees every plan.
The conversation, the labs, then the plan
The first appointment is in person, in Towaco. You describe what has shifted, and the team takes a full health history in the room. Blood work follows, because a symptom such as tiredness or a lower sex drive can have more than one explanation, and two people with the same reading do not always need the same thing.
Only then is a plan written. Dr. Donna D’Alessio, board certified in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, oversees what is used and at what dose, aiming for a normal, functional range rather than the highest number possible. Nurse practitioner Tanya Santoro brings a particular focus on testosterone therapy.
Choosing how you take it
- Injections give precise doses that are easy to fine-tune.
- Topical creams or gels are applied to the skin, a flexible option you use every day.
Your provider goes through which suits your routine at the consultation.
What can make it the wrong choice
Hormone therapy is not for everyone. A personal or family history of hormone-sensitive cancers, blood clots or certain heart and circulation conditions may rule it out, which is one reason the history is taken face to face. Early on, some people notice mild bloating, breast tenderness, skin changes, fluid retention or a reaction where an injection went in; dosing can be adjusted as levels settle.
Follow-ups from Montclair
Repeat labs and reviews keep the dose right, so you will be making the trip more than once. From Montclair it is Bloomfield Avenue to Route 23 north, then Route 202 to 624 Main Road: about 12 miles. Tuesday appointments run until 7 pm.
Montclair patients ask
My partner and I are both wondering about this. Can we both be seen? Yes. Testosterone therapy for men and estrogen and progesterone therapy for women are both part of the program.
When might I notice a difference? Energy, mood and sleep often begin to improve within two to four weeks, with fuller changes over two to three months.
Will my insurance pay? It depends on your plan. Some plans cover testing and certain prescriptions; check with your insurer, and our team can tell you what to expect to pay yourself.
Is it for life? Not necessarily. Some people taper off after a phase such as menopause; others continue. It is reviewed regularly.

What Our Patients Say About Us
★★★★★
Shannon from the MedSpa is absolutely amazing! She took the time to really understand my skin and helped me figure out exactly what it needs. She recommended products that feel incredible on my skin and made the whole experience feel personalized. The room was so relaxing, and everything about the appointment was perfect. I’m someone who usually pushes off getting facials, but after finally getting one done, it was 100% worth it. Overall a 10/10 experience!
