What “supervised” should mean
These days a weight-loss injection can be ordered in a lot of ways. At Montville MedSpa & Pain Center it starts somewhere more old-fashioned: a consultation in the office, where our medical professionals go through your health, your history and what you are hoping for before deciding whether either medicine suits you. Supervision here is not a word on a website. It is a person who reviews your dose, your progress and any side effects at regular check-ins, and changes the plan when something is not right.
Two medicines, one decision
We prescribe two medications and nothing else for this purpose.
- Semaglutide acts like GLP-1, a hormone your gut releases after a meal to signal that you have had enough. It reduces hunger and slows how fast the stomach empties.
- Tirzepatide works on GLP-1 too, and also on a second hormone receptor, GIP.
Both help keep blood sugar steady. Which one, if either, is decided at your consultation, along with the dose you start on.
The plan around the injection
The medication is only one part. Your plan also includes recommendations on what you eat and guidance on exercise, and the check-ins are where all three are looked at together. Reduced hunger can make healthier eating easier to stick with; it does not do the eating for you.
When the answer is “not this”
These medicines are not right for everyone. They are generally considered for adults whose BMI falls in the overweight or obese range, who have struggled to lose weight with diet and exercise, and who are ready to commit to healthier habits. Certain medical conditions, or an allergy to something in the injection, can rule them out. The consultation exists to catch exactly that.
Side effects to mention at a check-in
Redness or swelling where the needle went in, and stomach upsets such as nausea or diarrhea, are the common ones and tend to be temporary. Allergic reactions are rare. Bring anything you notice to your next appointment rather than adjusting things yourself.
The run from Montclair
Bloomfield Avenue to Route 23 north, then Route 202 through Lincoln Park to 624 Main Road in Towaco — about 12 miles. Because the check-ins repeat, a regular slot can help: Tuesdays we are open until 7 pm, and Saturdays from 9 am to 1 pm.
Montclair patients ask
How much will I lose? Nobody can honestly promise a number, and we will not. What we can do is monitor how you respond and adjust.
Is hormone care relevant? Sometimes. The practice also offers hormone replacement therapy for men and women, and the two can be discussed together.

What Our Patients Say About Us
★★★★★
I've had countless massages over the years, but none have ever truly addressed the root of my lower back pain until I saw MaryAnn. Her deep understanding of anatomy and her ability to pinpoint exactly where the pain was coming from made all the difference. Not only was the massage incredibly effective, but it was also one of the most relaxing experiences. Hands down, the best massage I've ever received. I HIGHLY recommend MaryAnn to anyone looking for real relief and true expertise!
