One program, for men and for women
Hormone replacement therapy at Montville MedSpa & Pain Center is not a women’s clinic or a men’s clinic. Men are treated with testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) once lab work confirms their testosterone is low. Women are treated with estrogen and progesterone therapy through perimenopause, menopause and the years after. Both follow the same rule: measure first, prescribe second, and recheck as you go.
Easy to keep coming back from Boonton
A hormone plan is a series of visits rather than a single appointment, and that is where living next door helps. Boonton borders Montville Township, and once you join I-287 north from Myrtle Avenue, Exit 47 is the next one. Route 202, known as Main Road in Towaco, then takes you about a mile and a half to our office at number 624.
Why the symptoms get explained away
Testosterone falls gradually, so many men blame the flat afternoons, the muscle slipping away and the shorter temper on work, age or stress, sometimes for years before anyone measures it. For women, perimenopause, menopause and the years after shift estrogen and progesterone, and the effects reach well beyond hot flashes: broken sleep, brain fog, mood changes and weight settling at the middle. In both cases a blood test, not a guess, shows whether hormones are behind it.
Two ways to take it
- Injections, for precise dosing that can be adjusted in small steps.
- Creams or gels applied to the skin, for flexible daily use.
Which suits you depends on your routine, and it is decided with you at the consultation.
Who oversees it
Every hormone plan is guided by Dr. Donna D’Alessio, MD, the physician who founded the practice. She is board certified in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, trained at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, where she was Chief Resident in her final year, and completed an internal medicine internship at SUNY Downstate. Nurse practitioner Tanya Santoro, NP-C has more than 20 years of nursing behind her, over ten of them as an NP, and focuses particularly on testosterone therapy.
Boonton patients ask
Will insurance pay for it? That depends entirely on your plan. Some plans cover lab testing and certain prescription hormones; others will not cover compounded preparations. Your insurer can confirm, and our team can tell you what to expect out of pocket.
How is the cost worked out? Injections and topical therapy are priced differently, and the dose and how often you are treated matter too, so your provider sets out the full cost at the consultation and can talk through payment options.
Can it cause acne or weight gain? Early on, shifting estrogen and progesterone can trigger breakouts in some patients, and a little water retention can come and go; both usually settle as the dose is fine-tuned. HRT does not directly cause weight gain.
Can I come after work? On Tuesdays we see patients until 7 pm, and on Saturdays from 9 am to 1 pm.
