Hormones rarely show up in just one place
Montville MedSpa & Pain Center offers hormone replacement therapy to men and to women. Men are treated with testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) once lab work confirms a low level; women are treated with estrogen and progesterone through perimenopause, menopause and the years beyond. What makes hormone trouble hard to pin down is that it rarely stays in one lane. It can surface as skin that has changed, weight collecting at the middle, nights broken by sweats or a temper that runs short, and those complaints are usually carried to several different offices. Here they can be raised in one.
Where the threads cross
- Skin. Thinning hair and dry skin are among the changes the practice’s own hormone quiz asks women about. Early in estrogen therapy, breakouts can also appear for a while and usually ease once dosing is fine-tuned. Nurse practitioner Tanya Santoro, NP-C is both an injector and a hormone specialist, so your skin and your hormone plan can be looked after by the same person.
- Weight. HRT does not directly cause weight gain, and many patients find steadier levels make their weight easier to manage. When the scale still will not move, weight-loss injections are prescribed by the same practice.
- Strength and stamina. For men, muscle that slips away despite training and energy that is spent by mid-afternoon are among the classic signs that testosterone should be measured.
- Everything else. Because the practice also looks after pain, veins and aesthetics, the clinician reviewing your hormones knows what else is going on with your health.
The order things happen in
- A consultation in the office, with a full history taken face to face.
- Questions about anything that could rule therapy out: hormone-sensitive cancers, blood clots or certain heart and circulation problems, in you or your family.
- Lab work, read alongside how you actually feel.
- A plan delivered by injection, for precise and adjustable dosing, or by a cream or gel applied each day.
- Repeat labs and in-person reviews, with the dose moved when your numbers and symptoms call for it.
Energy, mood and sleep commonly begin to shift within two to four weeks, while libido, body composition and mental clarity tend to take two to three months.
Who is responsible for your plan
Every hormone plan is overseen by Dr. Donna D’Alessio, MD, the practice’s owner, who is board certified in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. Tanya, who earned her Master of Science in Adult Health Nursing at Fairleigh Dickinson University, brings more than ten years as a nurse practitioner and a background in emergency medicine, cardiology and primary care.
From Essex Fells to the follow-ups
A hormone program means returning for labs and reviews. From the borough, Roseland Avenue and Bloomfield Avenue lead to Route 46, and Pine Brook Road climbs north to Main Road in Towaco, roughly 21 minutes in all without traffic.
Essex Fells patients ask
Is this only for women? No. The program treats men and women alike, each with their own labs and their own plan.
Will my insurance cover it? Plans differ widely. Some cover lab testing and certain prescription hormones; compounded preparations often are not covered. Your insurer can confirm, and our team can explain what you would pay yourself.
When are you open? Weekdays from 9, except Tuesday, when we open at 10 and stay until 7, and Saturday mornings from 9 until 1.
