Hormone Therapy for Men & Women for Lincoln Park, NJ

Testosterone for men, estrogen and progesterone for women — set from your own labs, a short drive west on Route 202.

Donna D'Alessio, MD

Hormone care for Lincoln Park, men and women alike

Our hormone program is for men and for women, not one or the other. Men with low testosterone are treated with testosterone replacement therapy (TRT), and women are treated with estrogen and progesterone through perimenopause, menopause and the years after. Lincoln Park borders Montville Township, so the visits hormone care depends on are close by: about six minutes without traffic, west on Route 202 to 624 Main Road in Towaco.

What the blood work is for

Symptoms point the way, but they cannot set a dose. Tiredness, poor sleep, a fading libido and weight that will not shift can come from several places, which is why your hormones are measured before anything is prescribed. The numbers are then read beside how you actually feel, since two people with an identical result do not always need the same treatment. For men, testosterone is offered only when testing confirms a low level. The aim throughout is a normal, functional range rather than the biggest figure a lab can print.

Injection or cream: choosing how you take it

Two delivery methods are offered, and the better one is whichever fits your life:

  • Injections give precise dosing that is easy to adjust as your levels change.
  • Topical creams or gels are applied to the skin, a flexible option for everyday use.
  • Both routes are overseen by Dr. Donna D’Alessio, MD, the physician who owns the practice, with repeat labs and follow-up visits to keep the dose on target.

Questions we hear from Lincoln Park

Will hormone therapy make me gain weight? HRT does not directly cause weight gain. A little water retention can happen early and is usually short-lived, and many patients find that balanced hormones make their weight easier to manage.

Can estrogen cause breakouts? It can during the first weeks, while levels are shifting. Skin generally settles as dosing is fine-tuned, and your protocol can be changed if it does not.

Does insurance pay for it? That varies widely from plan to plan. Some plans cover lab testing and certain prescription hormones, while others will not cover compounded preparations. Ask your insurer, and our team can explain what to expect out of pocket.

Is anyone ruled out? Yes. A personal or family history of hormone-sensitive cancers, blood clots or some cardiovascular conditions may mean hormone therapy is not safe for you, which is why your history comes before any prescription.

Can I fit visits around work? We are open until 7 pm on Tuesdays and from 9 am to 1 pm on Saturdays.
