Men and women, one way of working
Hormone replacement therapy at Montville MedSpa & Pain Center is for men and for women. Men are treated with testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) once lab work confirms that their level is low; women are treated with estrogen and progesterone through perimenopause, menopause and the years beyond. Hot flashes in women and flagging energy in men are the symptoms everyone has heard about. This page is about the ones people seldom think to connect with hormones.
Signs that get blamed on something else
These are taken from the symptom lists on the practice’s own 30-second hormone quiz, and they are the ones people tend to leave unticked because the link never occurred to them.
For women
- periods that have turned irregular or changed their pattern
- vaginal dryness or discomfort
- hair that is thinning, or skin that has become dry
- anxiety or irritability that does not feel like you
For men
- workouts that take longer to recover from than they used to
- motivation and drive that have quietly ebbed away
- changes in sexual performance
- belly fat that refuses to budge
None of these proves anything on its own, and every one has other possible causes. They are reasons to measure rather than to guess.
Why the labs come first
Nothing is prescribed from a checklist. At a consultation in our Towaco office you explain what has changed and give a full health history, and your hormone levels are tested. The results are then read alongside how you actually feel, since two people with an identical number do not always need the same thing. A personal or family history of hormone-sensitive cancer, blood clots or certain heart and circulation problems can make therapy unsafe, which is why those questions come early, and if hormones turn out not to be the explanation, you hear that directly.
If treatment suits you
You choose an injection, which allows precise dosing that is simple to adjust, or a cream or gel applied each day. The goal is a healthy working range for your body rather than the highest reading possible. Energy, mood and sleep often start to shift within two to four weeks, while libido, body composition and mental clarity usually take two to three months. Repeat labs and in-person reviews then keep the dose matched to your levels.
Who looks after your plan
Dr. Donna D’Alessio, MD, the practice’s owner, oversees every plan, and her board certification is in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. Nurse practitioner Tanya Santoro, NP-C specializes in hormone replacement therapy, testosterone above all, and brings a clinical background in emergency medicine, cardiology and primary care.
From Little Falls
A hormone plan means returning for labs and reviews, and from Little Falls each trip is about eight miles: Route 23 north, then Route 202 through Lincoln Park to 624 Main Road in Towaco, roughly 14 minutes without traffic.
Little Falls patients ask
I am under 35. Is it worth asking? The quiz begins with an under-35 age bracket, so age alone does not rule out a conversation; your history and your labs decide.
Is any of it done over video? No. Consultations and reviews take place face to face in Towaco.
When can I come in? Monday through Saturday, with Tuesday appointments until 7 pm and Saturday ones from 9 am to 1 pm.

What Our Patients Say About Us
★★★★★
I have been to see Dr. D'Alessio over the past 5 years. I especially drive for over an hour, she and her whole office are simply the BEST! She has done my leg veins, Botox and now I see her for my GLP weight loss treatments, she is truly AMAZING and CARING! She will work with your insurance and help you find the best course of treatment to bring the cost down, if possible. She is always conservative, attentive, kind and has so much patience when listening to your exact needs. I would never go anywhere else. I trust her and her staff fully!
