For men and for women, starting with five taps
Hormone replacement therapy at Montville MedSpa & Pain Center treats both sexes. Men whose labs show low testosterone are treated with testosterone replacement therapy (TRT), and women are treated with estrogen and progesterone therapy in perimenopause, through menopause and in the years after it. If you cannot tell whether hormones are behind how you feel, the easiest first step takes about thirty seconds: the hormone quiz on our HRT page.
What the quiz asks
- Whether you are a man or a woman, because the list of symptoms that follows is different for each.
- Your age, in brackets from under 35 to 55 or older.
- What you have noticed lately. Women see items such as hot flashes or night sweats, trouble sleeping, brain fog, irregular or changing periods and thinning hair or dry skin. Men see afternoon crashes, changes in sexual performance, lost muscle or strength and slow recovery after workouts. You tap every one that applies.
- How much it is affecting your life, from a little to not feeling like yourself at all.
- When your hormone levels were last checked, including never.
What it cannot tell you
The result is never a diagnosis. It counts how many of the symptoms people commonly bring to a hormone consultation you ticked, and it says in plain words that only lab work and a physician can tell you more. If you want to take it further, the short form underneath sends your answers to our office and the team calls you to arrange a visit. Nothing leaves your screen until you press that form’s button.
From the phone call to a plan
- A consultation in Towaco, where your history and symptoms are gone through face to face rather than on a web form.
- Lab work, so the decision rests on your measured levels, not on a quiz score.
- A plan overseen by Dr. Donna D’Alessio, MD, given as an injection or as a cream or gel, depending on which suits your routine.
- Repeat labs and in-person reviews, with the dose changed when your levels and symptoms call for it.
Nurse practitioner Tanya Santoro, NP-C, whose particular focus is testosterone replacement, sees hormone patients as well.
The drive from Totowa
Route 46 west and Route 23 north take you out of town, and Mountainview Boulevard then puts you on Route 202, which runs through Lincoln Park and becomes Main Road in Towaco. A hormone plan means coming back for labs and reviews, and at about eight and a half miles, roughly 15 minutes without traffic, each return trip stays short.
Totowa patients ask
My partner wants to take the quiz too. Can we both be treated? Yes. The program is for men and women alike, and each of you has your own history taken, your own labs read and your own plan written.
What if my quiz result is low? A low result says, in effect, that you may not need hormones but that knowing your numbers is still smart. If the symptoms carry on, a consultation and labs settle it either way.
Is anyone unsuited to hormone therapy? It may be ruled out by a hormone-sensitive cancer, blood clots or certain heart conditions in your own or your family’s history, which is why the history is taken before a prescription is considered.
When can I come in? Monday through Saturday, with Tuesday appointments running until 7 pm.
More detail is on the full HRT page and in how the in-office program runs.

What Our Patients Say About Us
★★★★★
I've had countless massages over the years, but none have ever truly addressed the root of my lower back pain until I saw MaryAnn. Her deep understanding of anatomy and her ability to pinpoint exactly where the pain was coming from made all the difference. Not only was the massage incredibly effective, but it was also one of the most relaxing experiences. Hands down, the best massage I've ever received. I HIGHLY recommend MaryAnn to anyone looking for real relief and true expertise!
