Massage Therapy for Kinnelon, NJ

Swedish, deep tissue or lymphatic drainage, shaped to the week you have had — 15 to 20 minutes from most of Kinnelon without traffic.

Donna D'Alessio, MD

After the trail, or after the desk

Kinnelon is a borough of lakes and wooded trails, with Silas Condict County Park and part of the Pyramid Mountain Natural Historical Area inside its borders. A long hike and a long week at a screen leave very different kinds of tightness, and a useful massage is planned around the one you walk in with. At Montville MedSpa & Pain Center, sessions are with Maryann Constantino, LMT, a licensed massage therapist who asks what is bothering you before she starts and keeps adjusting pressure and technique as she goes.

Building your session

  • Pick the massage. Swedish uses long, flowing strokes and gentle pressure to settle the nervous system. Deep tissue works slowly into the deeper muscle and connective tissue where tension has taken hold. Lymphatic drainage is a gentle, rhythmic 60 minutes for certain kinds of swelling.
  • Pick the length. Swedish and deep tissue each come in 60 or 90 minutes. An hour is usually plenty when the aim is simply to unwind, while deep work across the whole back, neck and shoulders goes better with the longer session.
  • Add something, if you like. Heated stones warm tight muscles so tension lets go more easily, a craniosacral scalp massage concentrates on the head, neck and spine, and reflexology works pressure points on the feet. Each add-on is an additional cost.

What regular massage may help with

Kept up over time, massage may help lower stress and anxiety, ease long-standing muscle tension, improve sleep and circulation, and keep you moving more freely. How much it helps depends on what lies behind the tension. If the same ache keeps coming back, the practice is also a pain center, where Dr. Donna D’Alessio, MD leads non-surgical care for back, neck, shoulder and joint pain, and patients already in pain management can add massage without going anywhere else.

Getting to Towaco

Kinnelon shares a border with Montville Township. Depending on which end of the borough you start from, Route 23 or Boonton Avenue will carry you most of the way, and from most addresses the drive to 624 Main Road takes 15 to 20 minutes without traffic.

Kinnelon clients ask

I have never had a massage. What should I book? Swedish. It lets you discover what pressure suits you without spending the hour bracing for it.

My back and legs ache after a weekend on the trails. Which one helps? Deep tissue is aimed at tightness that has settled into a muscle. Expect to feel a little sore for a day or so afterwards, much as you would after a hard workout. If it is one knot rather than everything, a 30-minute trigger point add-on can target it inside a Swedish session.

Is there anything I should tell my therapist beforehand? Yes: recent injuries or surgeries, any medical conditions, a pregnancy, osteoporosis, a past blood clot or a blood-thinning medicine. Firm pressure is not right for everyone, and the session is planned around what you share.

Which days can I book? Monday through Saturday. On Tuesdays we are open into the evening, until 7, and on Saturdays until 1.

Help deciding is in Swedish or deep tissue: which should you book?, the full menu is on our massage therapy page, and more about the area is on our Kinnelon page.
