Where the week ends up
Mountain Lakes has its own NJ Transit station, and Route 46 runs right through the borough. Whether your day is spent in a train seat, behind the wheel or bent over a laptop, hours held in one position tend to settle in the same few places: the back of the neck, the tops of the shoulders and the base of the skull. Looking down at a phone, driving and long stretches at a desk can all overload the neck muscles and leave them sore and tight.
Building a session for the upper body
Maryann Constantino, LMT, the practice’s licensed massage therapist, plans each session around what you tell her that day. For tension above the waist, the menu gives you several ways to spend the time:
- Deep tissue, 60 or 90 minutes. Slow, targeted work in the deeper muscle and the connective tissue around it. Ninety minutes is the better length when the back, neck and shoulders all need attention.
- Trigger point work, added on for 30 minutes. Concentrated pressure on the knots in one muscle group, such as the one that lodges under a shoulder blade.
- Scalp massage (craniosacral therapy), an add-on. Attention to the head, neck and spine, aimed at releasing tension and easing headaches and neck stiffness.
- Hot stones, an add-on. Heated stones warm tight muscles so they give up their tension more readily.
- Swedish, 60 or 90 minutes, for days when the problem is stress more than knots and the aim is simply to switch off.
Each add-on is an additional cost on top of the massage.
When a stiff neck needs a doctor
Massage may ease muscle tension and discomfort, but not every stiff neck is a muscle problem. The practice is also a pain center, and its non-surgical care is led by Dr. Donna D’Alessio, MD, who is board certified in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. It is worth seeing her rather than booking another massage if neck pain lasts more than a few weeks, keeps coming back, or arrives with headaches or tingling down an arm; our neck pain page explains why. Jaw clenching can add to neck tension and has its own TMJ treatment, and frequent migraines have a separate assessment for Botox for chronic migraines.
Getting here from Mountain Lakes
The Boulevard leads toward Boonton, where I-287 north carries you one exit to Route 202 and on to Main Road in Towaco. Our door at number 624 is roughly six miles from the middle of the borough, about 12 minutes without traffic.
Mountain Lakes clients ask
Can one knot get firm work while the rest stays gentle? Yes. Adding 30 minutes of trigger point therapy to a Swedish massage gives that one spot focused pressure while the rest of the hour stays relaxing.
I already see Dr. D’Alessio for pain. Can I add massage? You can. Patients in the practice’s pain management care book massage in the same office, so nothing has to be arranged elsewhere.
Can I book after work? Yes, on Tuesdays, when appointments run until 7 in the evening.
Help choosing is in Swedish or deep tissue: which should you book?, and the full menu is on the massage therapy page, with more about the area on our Mountain Lakes page.

What Our Patients Say About Us
★★★★★
Shannon from the MedSpa is absolutely amazing! She took the time to really understand my skin and helped me figure out exactly what it needs. She recommended products that feel incredible on my skin and made the whole experience feel personalized. The room was so relaxing, and everything about the appointment was perfect. I’m someone who usually pushes off getting facials, but after finally getting one done, it was 100% worth it. Overall a 10/10 experience!
