What a summer outdoors leaves on the skin
Mountain Lakes was laid out around its water. Birchwood Lake, Mountain Lake and the borough’s other man-made lakes are part of everyday life there, and two of them have town beaches. Seasons spent outdoors tend to show on the skin afterwards: brown spots, new freckles, patches of redness and a rougher, less even texture. Each of those has a treatment at Montville MedSpa & Pain Center, and the right one depends on what is there and how much downtime you can give it.
Matching the treatment to the mark
- Sun spots, freckles, redness and fine lines. Sciton’s BroadBand Light (BBL) delivers a spectrum of light whose wavelengths are adjusted to the concern, targeting pigment and redness while it stimulates collagen. A built-in cooling system keeps it comfortable, and there is typically little or no downtime.
- Age spots, rosacea redness and visible veins. An IPL photofacial with Limelight by Cutera uses targeted pulses of broad-spectrum light on pigmented and vascular marks. Most people describe a mild stinging or snapping feeling.
- Deeper sun damage, texture and fine lines. Sciton’s MOXI is a fractional laser that creates tiny controlled zones of heat, prompting new collagen and faster cell turnover. Most people are back to their routine within three to five days.
- Dull, dehydrated skin. A HydraFacial cleanses, exfoliates, extracts and infuses serums in one visit, with a visible glow straight afterwards and no downtime.
Why the cooler months suit light and laser
Before a BBL session you may be asked to keep out of strong sun and pause certain skin-care products for a few days, and after BBL or MOXI the aftercare centres on sunscreen and gentle products. That is simpler to manage once the beach days are behind you, so autumn and winter make a sensible window to begin a course. Improvements from both build gradually over the weeks after treatment, so starting early leaves time for the result to develop.
Who treats you
The light and laser treatments are carried out by licensed medical estheticians Kristen Marucci, who has more than 20 years as a skincare specialist, and Shannon Glinsky, who has also worked in plastic surgery offices. The practice’s lasers are overseen by its founder, Dr. Donna D’Alessio, MD. Shannon also builds home routines from medical-grade lines such as ZO Skin Health, SkinCeuticals and SkinMedica, so your skin is looked after between visits.
Mountain Lakes patients ask
How do I get there? Through Boonton to I-287 north, off at Exit 47, then Route 202, which becomes Main Road in Towaco. From the middle of the borough it takes about 12 minutes without traffic.
Will one session be enough? That depends on your skin and on how much sun damage there is, so the number of sessions is worked out with you at your consultation.
Can skin treatments be combined with injectables? Yes. The estheticians work alongside the practice’s injectors, so laser sessions and Botox or fillers can be planned in a sensible order.
When are you open? Monday to Saturday, until 7 pm on Tuesdays and from 9 am to 1 pm on Saturdays.
