An hour for switching off
Not every massage is about a sore muscle. Sometimes nothing in particular hurts and the real complaint is that you cannot wind down: sleep comes late, your shoulders creep up toward your ears and your mind keeps running through tomorrow. The massage menu at Montville MedSpa & Pain Center has a calm side built for exactly that, and Maryann Constantino, LMT, our licensed massage therapist, shapes the hour around how you feel when you walk in.
The base: a Swedish massage
Swedish massage is the classic full-body treatment, with long, flowing strokes and gentle pressure meant to quiet the nervous system and bring on deep relaxation. The practice names stress relief, better sleep and general well-being as the reasons to choose it. For most people who simply want to unwind, an hour is plenty, and the 90-minute session is there when you would like longer on the table.
Adding to the calm
Each of these is worked into the session at an additional cost, and you can combine more than one:
- Scalp massage (craniosacral therapy) concentrates on the head, neck and spine, and the practice describes it as promoting mental clarity as well as easing headaches.
- Reflexology applies pressure to points on the feet said to correspond to organs and systems of the body, with balance and lower stress as its stated aims.
- Reiki is a gentle, energy-based technique often paired with massage, chosen for relaxation and emotional release.
- CBD oil made from hemp is worked into the massage for clients who like an extra layer of calm.
- Hot stones bring a warmth that helps muscles loosen, and many people find it grounding.
Making it part of your routine
The benefits the practice lists for massage are the benefits of regular sessions rather than a single treat: reduced stress and anxiety, better sleep and circulation, support for immune function and easier movement. If the first hour helps, keeping a regular appointment is how those benefits are meant to build.
Coming from North Caldwell
The quickest way out of the borough runs along Greenbrook Road and Passaic Avenue, the second becoming Two Bridges Road, and then by Pine Brook Road and Chapel Hill Road to Route 202 in Lincoln Park. Follow 202 west and it brings you straight to our door at 624 Main Road in Towaco. Allow about 16 minutes without traffic for the eight-mile drive, and take the trip home slowly.
North Caldwell clients ask
I have never had a massage. Is Swedish a safe first choice? It is the usual starting point. You find out what pressure suits you without bracing through the hour, and you can ask for lighter or firmer pressure at any moment.
What if something does ache? Tell Maryann before she starts. A 30-minute trigger point add-on can work one stubborn knot firmly while the rest stays gentle, and if an ache keeps returning, the practice is also a pain center led by Dr. Donna D’Alessio, MD.
How should I prepare? Skip a large meal right before the session, drink some water during the day and arrive a few minutes early for the paperwork. Mention any injuries, recent surgery or medical conditions.
Is there an evening appointment? Yes, on Tuesdays, when we see clients until 7 pm.

What Our Patients Say About Us
★★★★★
I have been to see Dr. D'Alessio over the past 5 years. I especially drive for over an hour, she and her whole office are simply the BEST! She has done my leg veins, Botox and now I see her for my GLP weight loss treatments, she is truly AMAZING and CARING! She will work with your insurance and help you find the best course of treatment to bring the cost down, if possible. She is always conservative, attentive, kind and has so much patience when listening to your exact needs. I would never go anywhere else. I trust her and her staff fully!
