A treatment that begins with a blood draw
Several treatments on the MedSpa menu at Montville MedSpa & Pain Center start the same way: a small sample of blood is taken from your arm, much like a routine lab test, and spun in a centrifuge. The spinning separates out platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, the part of the blood that carries growth factors involved in healing. What happens next depends on whether the concern is your skin or your scalp.
Three ways PRP is used here
- The PRP “vampire” facial. After a numbing cream has had about 15 minutes to work, fine needles make tiny channels in the skin while the plasma is applied, so it reaches deeper. Once the PRP is spread evenly, a hyaluronic acid serum with vitamins is often put on to calm the skin, and ice helps with any swelling. The practice offers it for fine lines, uneven texture, sun damage and the marks acne leaves, and most people go back to their usual routine soon afterwards.
- PRP with Vivace RF microneedling. Vivace delivers radiofrequency energy through its needles, and PRP can be added to the session to boost collagen stimulation and help improve scars. Your provider tells you at the consultation whether adding it suits your skin.
- PRP hair restoration. For thinning hair, the plasma is injected into the scalp at chosen points to stimulate dormant follicles, followed by a light scalp massage. A visit takes about 90 minutes, numbing cream is available if you would like it, and both men and women are treated. The best candidates have mild to moderate hair loss, and the practice suggests maintenance sessions every three months.
Why it belongs in a medical practice
Drawing blood, preparing plasma and injecting a scalp are medical steps, and the practice’s PRP work is overseen by its founder, Dr. Donna D’Alessio, MD. Licensed medical estheticians Kristen Marucci and Shannon Glinsky both count the PRP facial among their treatments, and nurse practitioner Tanya Santoro can explain how PRP fits alongside Botox, filler and laser so each step builds on the last.
Out of Cedar Knolls
Head north on Ridgedale Avenue to Route 10 and take the ramp for I-287 north almost at once. Come off at Exit 47, turn left along Main Road, and the office at number 624 is about a mile and a half further. OpenStreetMap’s routing makes it roughly eleven miles, about 17 minutes without traffic.
Hanover clients ask
Is the blood draw painful? The practice describes it as quick and generally pain-free.
Is there downtime after PRP for the scalp? Mild soreness where the injections went in is possible, and most people get on with their day straight away.
Can I see the rest of the menu? Every facial, laser and body treatment is listed on the MedSpa services page, and anything running now is on our special offers page.
Which days are you open? Six days, Monday to Saturday; Tuesday is the late evening, and Saturday closes at one.

Shannon from the MedSpa is absolutely amazing! She took the time to really understand my skin and helped me figure out exactly what it needs. She recommended products that feel incredible on my skin and made the whole experience feel personalized. The room was so relaxing, and everything about the appointment was perfect. I’m someone who usually pushes off getting facials, but after finally getting one done, it was 100% worth it. Overall a 10/10 experience!
