Trading the daily routine for a series
Shaving takes a few minutes every day and brings razor burn, ingrown hairs and stubble that is back by evening. Waxing lasts longer but pulls at sensitive skin and does nothing to the follicle. Laser hair removal at Montville MedSpa & Pain Center works at the root instead: pulses of light are absorbed by the pigment in the hair and turned into heat inside the follicle, which disrupts its growth cycle while sparing the skin around it. The practice recommends a tailored series of sessions spaced weeks apart, with maintenance visits afterward as needed.
Small areas and large ones
Because the light covers many hairs at once, larger areas such as the legs move quickly, and the precision is fine enough for small spots like the upper lip or the space between the brows. A typical session takes 30 to 45 minutes.
Does it suit my skin?
Laser treats hair that contains melanin, fine or coarse, and the practice treats all skin tones, from fair to dark, by matching the settings to your skin type and hair shade. Your skin type, hair density and color are assessed at the consultation, along with your medical history, before any settings are chosen.
In the weeks before your first session
- Stop waxing and plucking six weeks ahead. Both remove the hair root the laser needs to find.
- Shave several days before. That clears hair from the surface and gives any nicks time to heal before treatment.
- Arrive with clean skin on the area being treated.
On the day
You are seen in a private treatment room, and everyone working in it wears laser-rated eye protection, which matters most when the face is being treated. The skin is held taut and the pulses are applied in several passes. You may notice small sensations as the light becomes heat in the follicle, and numbing cream can ease them if you want it.
Looking after the skin afterward
Any redness, irritation or swelling usually fades within hours. For the next few days:
- use cool compresses and loose clothing over the area
- keep out of the sun and away from heat such as saunas and hot baths
- moisturize daily, and do not pick or scratch
- leave makeup and fragrance off the area for 24 hours
The risks the practice names include changes in skin color, which careful settings and good aftercare help to prevent, and, less often, blistering or a few ingrown hairs.

Testimonials
What Our Patients Say About Us
★★★★★
Kristen is truly exceptional — she goes above and beyond in every way. I honestly don’t think I’ll ever find anyone who matches her level of excellence. I’ve had several Vivace microneedling treatments with her, and she was incredibly thorough and meticulous every time. Her follow-up care is just as impressive. I’m a very cautious person when it comes to these treatments and I ask a lot of questions, and she always responds with patience, professionalism, and genuine care. It’s clear she takes pride in her work. I highly, highly recommend her!
