A treatment that runs on a weekly clock
Semaglutide and tirzepatide, the two weight-loss medicines prescribed at Montville MedSpa & Pain Center, are taken once a week as a small injection under the skin, usually in the stomach, the thigh or the upper arm. Both slow how fast food leaves the stomach and quiet appetite signals; tirzepatide also acts on a second gut hormone, GIP. Because the medicine works on a seven-day cycle, it pays to arrange your week around it with some care.
Choosing your injection day
Pick one day and keep it, with a reminder on your phone. It is worth thinking about what comes after it. Digestive side effects, when they happen, can arrive as a small wave for a day or two after a dose, so you may prefer an injection day followed by a quieter one rather than the night before a demanding one.
Why the dose climbs in steps
Nobody starts on the full dose. Treatment begins low and is raised gradually, which gives the body time to adjust and keeps side effects manageable; in the brand-name prescribing information for Wegovy®, the step comes every four weeks. Your provider decides your own doses and timing, and can slow the pace if a step is hard going. That is also why little may seem to happen in the first month. The dose is still low, and modest change at that stage is normal.
The days after a step up
Nausea, fullness, constipation or diarrhea can flare for a few days after an increase and then settle again. What tends to help:
- Serve yourself less than you think you need, and eat slowly.
- Stop at the first sign of fullness; eating past it is the commonest trigger for nausea.
- Choose lighter food over fried, fatty or very sweet dishes.
- Stay upright for a while after meals, and keep sipping water through the day.
If symptoms do not ease, call rather than skipping a dose or stopping on your own.
If a week goes wrong
Missed a dose? Follow the medicine’s own instructions or ring your provider, and never double up to catch up. Planning surgery or a procedure with sedation? Tell the team doing it that you take one of these injections, because slower stomach emptying matters for anesthesia.
Around the medicine
Your plan is built at a medical consultation and includes dietary recommendations, exercise guidance and regular check-ins at which the dose and the advice are adjusted. A personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN2 rules both medicines out, as does pregnancy, and pancreatitis, gallbladder disease, kidney disease and diabetic eye disease are all asked about first.
Check-ins from North Haledon
Belmont Avenue and Union Avenue lead to Route 46; Route 23 north and Route 202 through Lincoln Park finish at 624 Main Road in Towaco, about 24 minutes without traffic.
North Haledon patients ask
How much weight will I lose? Nobody can promise a figure. Results depend on you, the medicine and the habits built around it, and the plan is reviewed as it goes.
Semaglutide or tirzepatide? Both are offered, and which suits you, if either, is decided at your consultation.
Can a check-in be on a Saturday? Yes, between 9 am and 1 pm.

I’m someone who usually pushes off getting facials, but after finally getting one done, it was 100% worth it. Overall a 10/10 experience!
