Tired of hearing you look tired
Plenty of people who ask about filler are not thinking about their lips at all. They are tired of being told they look tired. With age, the fatty tissue in the tear trough flattens and the cheek loses some of its volume. The hollow that forms beneath the eye throws a shadow that reads as dark circles, sometimes with a bluish cast, and the face can look worn even after a full night’s sleep.
Two areas that work as a pair
- The tear trough. A small amount of hyaluronic acid (HA) filler, placed with a fine needle or a blunt-tipped cannula, softens the hollow and the shadow it casts. The result develops over one to four weeks as early swelling goes down, and this area is usually refreshed every six to twelve months.
- The cheek. The midface is one of the earliest parts of the face to lose volume. Juvéderm Voluma XC restores projection high on the cheekbone, and placement there has a subtle lifting effect on the tissue around it. In the cheeks, Voluma can last up to 18 to 24 months.
Whether you need one area, the other or both is decided after your provider has studied your face from several angles and in motion.
When filler is not the answer
Not every bag beneath the eye is a hollow. Filler helps where the problem is lost volume rather than excess tissue, and your provider will tell you which you have. Crow’s feet that crinkle when you smile are made by a muscle, so Botox and Dysport are the tools for them, while fine lines on the surface of the skin are a job for skin treatments such as microneedling.
Who places it
Filler here is placed by Dr. Donna D’Alessio, MD or one of her two nurse practitioners, Amy Natalicchio and Tanya Santoro, and Dr. D’Alessio, who leads the team, is trained in facial anatomy and vascular safety. The practice counts tear trough filler among the most delicate treatments it offers, and because HA filler can be dissolved with hyaluronidase, a correction is always possible.
From Riverdale to Towaco
The local route runs about seven miles: the Boulevard south through Pompton Plains, then Jacksonville Road until it meets Main Road in Towaco. Allow around 11 minutes without traffic, which makes the follow-up visit once swelling has settled an easy one to keep.
Riverdale patients ask
Will I bruise? Mild swelling, redness or bruising is normal and usually fades within one to three days, and an ice pack helps.
Does it hurt? Most people find it mild. Numbing cream goes on first, and most modern fillers also contain lidocaine.
Can I see examples before booking? Yes, on our before & after page.

Shannon from the MedSpa is absolutely amazing! She took the time to really understand my skin and helped me figure out exactly what it needs. She recommended products that feel incredible on my skin and made the whole experience feel personalized. The room was so relaxing, and everything about the appointment was perfect. I’m someone who usually pushes off getting facials, but after finally getting one done, it was 100% worth it. Overall a 10/10 experience!
