A well-studied product; the injector is the variable
Botox received FDA approval as a cosmetic treatment in 2002, after first being developed to treat eyelid spasms and excessive sweating. Its ability to relax a chosen muscle for a few months made it the standard treatment for expression lines, and Dysport, another FDA-approved member of the botulinum neurotoxin type A family, works the same way. The products themselves are well understood. What changes from one office to the next is the judgment of the person holding the syringe, so it is worth knowing what to ask before you book anywhere.
Five questions worth asking any injector
- Who will actually give the injections? Here it is Dr. Donna D’Alessio, MD, the physician who owns the practice, or one of her nurse practitioners, Amy Natalicchio and Tanya Santoro.
- Is a physician behind the plan? Every neurotoxin treatment at Montville MedSpa & Pain Center is reviewed and overseen by Dr. D’Alessio, who is board certified in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation.
- How do you decide where it goes? By your facial structure, the strength of each muscle and the lines you want softened, so the plan is drawn for your face rather than copied from a template.
- What will I look like afterwards? Relaxed and rested, with your expressions still working. Freezing a face is not the goal.
- What if something needs adjusting? A follow-up once the product has fully settled is encouraged, so small refinements can be made.
The way down from Riverdale
Join Route 23 southbound and leave it almost at once at the exit for Pompton Plains and Lincoln Park. The Boulevard then carries you south through Pompton Plains; turn right onto Jacksonville Road and stay with it until it ends at Main Road in Towaco, where our office is at number 624. The whole trip is roughly seven miles and about 11 minutes without traffic.
What the appointment involves
It starts with a consultation about your goals, your medical history and the areas that bother you. The injections themselves take 10 to 20 minutes with a very fine needle, and most people liken each one to a quick pinch. There is no downtime: you can go back to work, keeping your hands off the treated area for the next 24 hours.
Riverdale patients ask
Will people notice? Any redness or small bruise at an injection point usually clears within hours to a few days, and the softening itself arrives gradually, beginning three to five days after treatment.
How long will it last? For most people, about three to four months. With regular treatment, many find the results stretch further, because muscles relaxed again and again become used to resting.
Can I come in after work? On Tuesdays, yes, until 7 pm. On Saturdays we are open from 9 am until 1 pm.
