Hormone Therapy for Men & Women for Riverdale, NJ

TRT for men, estrogen and progesterone for women, and plain answers to what people get wrong — about 13 minutes from Riverdale by I-287 without traffic.

Donna D'Alessio, MD

One program, two halves

Montville MedSpa & Pain Center runs a single hormone replacement therapy program that treats both sexes. For men it means testosterone replacement therapy (TRT), offered once blood work shows that testosterone really is low. For women it means estrogen and progesterone therapy, from the first changes of perimenopause, through menopause and into the years afterwards. Before deciding whether either is for you, it is worth clearing away a few ideas that stop people from asking at all.

Five things people get wrong

“It’s a women’s treatment.” Half of the program exists for men. Energy that is gone by mid-afternoon, muscle that slips away despite training, a fading sex drive and a shorter temper can all trace back to low testosterone, and a man’s levels are checked as carefully as a woman’s.

“My symptoms already prove it.” They show where to look, nothing more. Hot flashes, poor sleep, brain fog and weight gathering around the middle have more than one possible cause, so your hormones are tested before anything is prescribed and the numbers are read beside how you actually feel.

“More is better.” The aim is a normal range in which your body works well, not the top of the lab’s scale. Doses move when follow-up labs say they should.

“Once I start, I can never stop.” Some people use hormone therapy for one chapter of life, menopause for example, and later taper off, while others stay on it by choice. Your provider reviews the plan with you regularly.

“An online subscription is just as good.” A questionnaire cannot take your history in the room or notice what else is going on with your health. Here a physician oversees every plan, and you are seen face to face.

Who is behind your plan

Dr. Donna D’Alessio, MD owns the practice, is board certified in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and guides every hormone plan written here. Alongside her, nurse practitioner Tanya Santoro, NP-C brings specialized expertise in hormone replacement therapy, testosterone therapy above all. Treatment is given either as an injection, which allows precise and adjustable dosing, or as a cream or gel applied to the skin each day.

The drive from Riverdale

Riverdale has two exits of its own on I-287. Head south to Exit 47, turn right onto Main Road and carry on about a mile and a half to number 624, roughly 13 minutes without traffic. Local roads, by way of the Boulevard through Pompton Plains and then Jacksonville Road, take about 11.

Riverdale patients ask

Is anyone unsuited to it? Yes. A personal or family history of a hormone-sensitive cancer, blood clots or certain heart and vascular conditions can rule it out, which is why your history comes before any prescription.

What might I notice in the first weeks? While the body adjusts, some people have mild bloating, tender breasts, a few breakouts, fluid retention or soreness where an injection went in. These usually ease once the dose is fine-tuned.

Do you see patients on Saturdays? Yes, from 9 am to 1 pm, and on Tuesdays our last appointments run until 7 pm.
