A program Denville already uses
Denville is one of the towns hormone patients already travel from to Montville MedSpa & Pain Center in Towaco. The program treats men and women under the same rules, but the way hormones change is very different for each, so this page takes them stage by stage.
For women: three stages, not one moment
Menopause is usually spoken of as a single event. In practice it is a stretch of years, and estrogen and progesterone therapy is offered through all of it.
- Perimenopause. The run-up to menopause, when periods can become irregular and changes such as hot flashes, broken sleep or mood swings may begin.
- Menopause. Hot flashes, night sweats and poor sleep are the familiar signs, often joined by brain fog, a lower libido and weight that settles around the middle.
- The years after. Post-menopause is part of the program too. Some women stay on therapy for the long term, while others use it for one phase and later taper off.
For men: a slow slide
Testosterone usually falls gradually rather than all at once, which is why so many men put the symptoms down to work, age or stress for years before anyone checks. Stamina gone by the afternoon, muscle that falls away despite training, less interest in sex, a shorter fuse and trouble concentrating are the patterns that make testing worthwhile. Testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) is offered only once lab work confirms a low level.
The rules that apply to everyone
- History first. A personal or family history of hormone-sensitive cancer, blood clots or certain heart and circulation conditions can make therapy unsafe, so those questions come before anything else.
- Labs before any prescription, read alongside your symptoms rather than on their own.
- A choice of delivery: an injection for precise dosing that is easy to adjust, or a cream or gel used daily.
- Repeat labs and in-person reviews, aiming for a normal range in which you function well.
Some people notice mild bloating, breast tenderness, breakouts, fluid retention or soreness at an injection site in the early weeks; these generally settle as dosing is refined.
The clinicians
Every plan is overseen by Dr. Donna D’Alessio, MD, who owns the practice and is board certified in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. Nurse practitioner Tanya Santoro, NP-C, with more than 20 years of nursing behind her, specializes in hormone replacement therapy, particularly testosterone.
Denville patients ask
How do I get to Towaco? Route 46 east into Parsippany, then I-287 north to Exit 47 and left along Main Road to number 624. OpenStreetMap’s routing puts it at roughly 16 minutes without traffic.
How quickly might I notice a change? Energy, mood and sleep are often first, within two to four weeks; libido, body composition and mental clarity usually take two to three months.
Can I come after work? Tuesday appointments run until 7 pm, and Saturday mornings from 9 until 1.

What Our Patients Say About Us
★★★★★
I have been to see Dr. D'Alessio over the past 5 years. I especially drive for over an hour, she and her whole office are simply the BEST! She has done my leg veins, Botox and now I see her for my GLP weight loss treatments, she is truly AMAZING and CARING! She will work with your insurance and help you find the best course of treatment to bring the cost down, if possible. She is always conservative, attentive, kind and has so much patience when listening to your exact needs. I would never go anywhere else. I trust her and her staff fully!
