Thinking in seasons, not single visits
Botox and Dysport are temporary by design. Over the months after a treatment your body breaks the product down and the muscle gradually works again, which is exactly why neurotoxin is so controllable. It also means a smooth forehead is something you keep up rather than buy once. For most people that works out to a visit every three to four months, so it helps to see the whole year before the first injection.
Visit one: the consultation and first treatment
Everything begins with a conversation at Montville MedSpa & Pain Center about your goals, your medical history and the lines that bother you, while your injector watches how your face moves. Forehead lines, the “11s” between the brows and crow’s feet are the usual starting points. Botox or Dysport is then chosen for you; both are FDA-approved botulinum toxin type A, but they are formulated differently and spread differently. In the week before, avoid alcohol and blood thinners where that is safe, and check with the prescriber before pausing any prescribed one. The injections take ten to twenty minutes.
The first fortnight
- Days one and two: no downtime, but no massaging the area for 24 hours. A headache or heaviness, if it comes, usually clears within a day or two.
- Days three to five: the first softening.
- Days ten to fourteen: the complete effect. This is the fair moment to judge it, and a follow-up visit once everything has settled is encouraged so small refinements can be made.
Months three and four
Movement creeps back gradually, and this is when most people book again. Leave at least three months between touch-ups rather than topping up early.
The longer view
Repeat the cycle and something useful tends to happen: treated muscles become conditioned to staying more relaxed, so lines form less deeply between appointments and many patients find their results stretch further. Some people in their mid-to-late twenties begin before lines set in, with conservative doses aimed at prevention rather than correction.
It is worth noting the date, the product and the areas after each visit, especially if you have ever been treated elsewhere, so each plan builds on the last.
Who treats you
Dr. Donna D’Alessio, MD, founder of the practice and board certified in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, leads the injector team and reviews every neurotoxin treatment. Nurse practitioners Amy Natalicchio and Tanya Santoro inject to the standard she sets.
Denville patients ask
What is the quickest way over? Take Route 46 east to Littleton Road in Parsippany, join I-287 north and leave at Exit 47 for Route 202. Turn left onto Main Road; our office is about a mile and a half along at number 624. OpenStreetMap’s routing puts it at a little under eleven miles, about 16 minutes without traffic.
Can it help with my jaw or headaches? For suitable candidates, after a separate assessment: see TMJ treatment and Botox for chronic migraines.
How do I fit visits around work? Tuesday appointments run until 7 pm, and Saturday mornings from 9 to 1.
