The ingredient you bring with you
Most of what happens in a MedSpa uses a product, a gel or a device. Two treatments at Montville MedSpa & Pain Center work differently, because their main ingredient comes from you. Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, is the portion of your blood that carries platelets and the growth factors they release, and the practice uses it in Facial PRP, still widely known as the Vampire Facial, and in PRP hair restoration.
How the plasma is made
A small sample is drawn from your arm in much the way a routine lab test is. The tube is spun in a centrifuge, which separates the platelet-rich plasma from the rest of the blood, and that concentrated layer is drawn off and readied for treatment within the same appointment. Nothing in it has come from anyone else.
For the face: Facial PRP
Your face is cleansed, makeup is removed and numbing cream is left on for around 15 minutes. A microneedling device then makes tiny channels in the skin while PRP is applied over it, so the plasma can reach deeper than it would on unbroken skin, and the rest is spread evenly across the face. A hyaluronic acid serum with vitamins is often put on afterwards to calm things down, and ice helps with any swelling. The aim is new collagen and elastin, with the practice naming fine lines, uneven tone, marks left by acne and sun damage among the concerns it targets. You can usually return to your normal routine soon afterwards.
For the scalp: PRP hair restoration
This one takes about 90 minutes from start to finish. Between 20 and 50 mL of blood is drawn and spun, numbing cream is offered if you want it, and the plasma is injected at chosen points across the thinning areas, followed by a light scalp massage and instructions for home. Men and women can both be treated, and people with mild to moderate loss are the best candidates. Results often start to appear at three to six months, and maintenance sessions every three months help keep them. For a day or two afterwards you are asked not to wash the scalp or do anything strenuous.
Before your appointment
- Tell the team about every medicine you take, blood thinners especially; never stop a prescribed one without asking the doctor who prescribed it.
- Mention allergies and any skin or scalp condition.
- For hair, know that PRP can encourage growth but is not a cure for alopecia areata.
Who carries out Facial PRP
Licensed medical estheticians Kristen Marucci, a skincare specialist for more than 20 years, and Shannon Glinsky, who has worked in plastic surgery offices as well as MedSpas, both perform it, within a practice founded and led by Dr. Donna D’Alessio, MD.
The trip from Haledon
From Belmont Avenue, head along West Broadway and Union Avenue out to Route 46, then take Route 23 north and Mountainview Boulevard onto Route 202 through Lincoln Park. Number 624 Main Road in Towaco is about 20 minutes away without traffic.
Haledon clients ask
How is this different from plain microneedling? Microneedling on its own relies on the skin’s response to the channels; Facial PRP adds your own plasma as they are made.
Could I react to it? Because the plasma is yours, the practice describes allergic reactions as virtually non-existent.

What Our Patients Say About Us
★★★★★
I've had countless massages over the years, but none have ever truly addressed the root of my lower back pain until I saw MaryAnn. Her deep understanding of anatomy and her ability to pinpoint exactly where the pain was coming from made all the difference. Not only was the massage incredibly effective, but it was also one of the most relaxing experiences. Hands down, the best massage I've ever received. I HIGHLY recommend MaryAnn to anyone looking for real relief and true expertise!
