Why people put the razor down
Shaving takes time, grows back by the next morning and brings razor burn and ingrown hairs with it, while waxing pulls at the skin. Laser hair removal works on the hair root instead, and it is one of the most practical treatments on the MedSpa menu at Montville MedSpa & Pain Center.
How it works
The laser sends short pulses of concentrated light that are absorbed by melanin, the pigment in the hair shaft. That energy turns to heat in the follicle, disrupting its growth cycle while the skin around it is largely spared. Because the follicle itself is treated, a regrowing hair is far less likely to get trapped beneath the skin, which is why ingrown hairs become less of a problem. Coarse and fine hair can both be treated as long as they contain pigment, and settings are customized so every skin tone can be treated safely. The practice describes the result as a long-term reduction in regrowth, with touch-up sessions years apart, if they are needed at all.
Your sessions, start to finish
- Consultation. Your history, your skin type and the color and density of your hair are reviewed so the settings suit you.
- Preparation. Shave the area several days ahead, and avoid waxing or plucking for six weeks beforehand, because the laser needs the root in place to find it.
- Protection. Everyone in the room wears laser-rated eyewear.
- Treatment. The skin is held taut and treated in passes; a typical session lasts 30 to 45 minutes. It is generally better tolerated than waxing, and topical numbing can make it more comfortable still.
- A series. For thorough, long-lasting results the practice plans a tailored run of sessions spaced weeks apart.
Afterwards
Redness, irritation or swelling usually fades within hours, and cool compresses help. Wear loose clothing over the area, keep makeup and fragrance off it for 24 hours, and avoid sun and heat such as saunas and hot baths for several days. Moisturize daily and do not pick at the follicles. Less commonly there can be blistering or a change in skin texture; a change in pigment, darker or lighter, is the main risk to discuss at the consultation.
Who does it
Laser hair removal is carried out by licensed medical estheticians Kristen Marucci and Shannon Glinsky, and the practice’s lasers are overseen by its founder, Dr. Donna D’Alessio, MD. Kristen also offers waxing for the face and body, eyebrows included, for anyone not ready for a laser.

Testimonials
What Our Patients Say About Us
★★★★★
Kristen is truly exceptional — she goes above and beyond in every way. I honestly don’t think I’ll ever find anyone who matches her level of excellence. I’ve had several Vivace microneedling treatments with her, and she was incredibly thorough and meticulous every time. Her follow-up care is just as impressive. I’m a very cautious person when it comes to these treatments and I ask a lot of questions, and she always responds with patience, professionalism, and genuine care. It’s clear she takes pride in her work. I highly, highly recommend her!
