Start with what you want your lips to do
Lip filler is one of the treatments people ask Montville MedSpa & Pain Center about most, and “bigger” is rarely the whole request. Some people want back the fullness that has faded with age. Others want a sharper outline, more even sides, or lips that look less dry. Each of those is a slightly different job, and the hyaluronic acid (HA) gel is chosen to match it.
Four goals, matched to a gel
- A soft, barely-there change. Juvéderm Volbella XC is the most delicate lip filler the practice uses, suited to subtle volume and a gentle, natural pout.
- Visible fullness and definition. Juvéderm Ultra XC is the bolder option, for lips that look noticeably fuller and more clearly defined.
- The fine lines above the lip. Volbella XC also blurs lip lines, and Revanesse Versa plumps fine lines as well as the lips themselves. Where the lines come mostly from movement, a little Botox or Dysport may be suggested instead.
- Lips that never stop moving. RHA, a resilient HA gel, is pliable enough to flex with talking, eating and smiling.
Whatever the gel, the plan is calibrated to your face rather than to a trend, and the practice does not overfill.
Inside the appointment
A numbing cream goes on 15 to 30 minutes beforehand, and most modern fillers carry lidocaine as well. After the gel is placed, your provider molds it by hand, then gently works the area as you smile and frown, so the gel settles in with your expressions rather than against them. Injections are given by Dr. Donna D’Alessio, MD, who is trained in facial anatomy and vascular safety, or by nurse practitioners Amy Natalicchio and Tanya Santoro, working to the standard she sets.
Living with lip filler
Lips break HA down faster than calmer parts of the face, so they need upkeep more often than the cheeks or jaw. The upside of HA is that nothing is permanent: an enzyme, hyaluronidase, can dissolve it if a correction is ever needed. Swelling and bruising usually settle within one to three days, and a follow-up one to two weeks later is when the result is judged. Our lip filler aftercare guide covers the first days in detail.
From Pompton Lakes
The Paterson-Hamburg Turnpike takes you out of the borough, and the Newark-Pompton Turnpike, the Boulevard and Jacksonville Road bring you down to Main Road in Towaco: about nine miles, close to 15 minutes without traffic. That keeps the follow-up visit easy.
Pompton Lakes patients ask
I get cold sores. Does it matter? Yes, mention it at your consultation, because a flare-up is one of the known risks of filler.
Is there a minimum age? Yes: the practice’s fillers are FDA-approved from age 22.
What should I skip afterwards? Keep your hands off your lips for a few hours, put off hard exercise for a day or two, and avoid alcohol, blood thinners and strong sun for the first day.

What Our Patients Say About Us
★★★★★
I've had countless massages over the years, but none have ever truly addressed the root of my lower back pain until I saw MaryAnn. Her deep understanding of anatomy and her ability to pinpoint exactly where the pain was coming from made all the difference. Not only was the massage incredibly effective, but it was also one of the most relaxing experiences. Hands down, the best massage I've ever received. I HIGHLY recommend MaryAnn to anyone looking for real relief and true expertise!
