Come with questions
A first consultation for a weight-loss injection at Montville MedSpa & Pain Center is a two-way conversation. Our medical professionals review your health, your goals and your medical history to decide whether semaglutide, tirzepatide or neither suits you, and you should leave knowing exactly what you would be starting. These are the questions worth bringing, with the answers you will hear here.
What to have with you
- every medication and supplement you take, including anything for diabetes and any birth control pill
- recent blood work, if you have it
- your history of pancreatitis, gallbladder disease, kidney problems or diabetic eye disease, if any
- a goal that is about more than the scale, such as feeling in charge of your appetite again
The questions, and our answers
Which of the two would I take? Semaglutide copies GLP-1, a gut hormone that signals fullness and helps regulate blood sugar. Tirzepatide goes a step further, acting on receptors for a second gut hormone, GIP, as well as GLP-1. Your provider weighs your goals, history, other medicines and any past experience with either before recommending one.
Is there anything that rules me out? Yes. A personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN2, or a pregnancy now or planned, rules out both.
How is it given? As one small injection under the skin each week, usually in the stomach, thigh or upper arm, on a day you keep the same.
Why does it start so low? The dose is raised in steps so your body can adjust and side effects stay manageable. Your provider sets the pace and can slow it.
What will I feel? Mostly digestive effects such as nausea, constipation or diarrhea, usually strongest for a few days after each step up. Severe stomach pain that will not settle, or any swelling of the face or throat, needs a prompt call.
Does it affect my birth control? Tirzepatide can make birth control pills less effective after you start it and after each increase, so a backup or non-oral method is advised during those weeks.
How much will I lose? Nobody can honestly promise a number. It depends on your starting point, how you respond, how the dose progresses and what changes alongside it.
What happens if I stop? These medicines work while you take them, and weight tends to come back for many people afterwards. Any change is planned with your provider, and the habits built in the meantime are what carry you.
Check-ins from the borough
Every plan comes with regular check-ins, where the dose, the eating advice and the exercise guidance are adjusted. From Pompton Lakes they are close to 15 minutes away without traffic, about nine miles by the two Turnpikes, the Boulevard and Jacksonville Road to 624 Main Road.
Pompton Lakes patients ask
Can I come on a Saturday? Yes, Saturday mornings from 9 until 1, and Tuesday evenings until 7.
Where can I read more first? Try semaglutide vs. tirzepatide, semaglutide side effects or the weight-loss injections page.

Shannon from the MedSpa is absolutely amazing! She took the time to really understand my skin and helped me figure out exactly what it needs. She recommended products that feel incredible on my skin and made the whole experience feel personalized. The room was so relaxing, and everything about the appointment was perfect. I’m someone who usually pushes off getting facials, but after finally getting one done, it was 100% worth it. Overall a 10/10 experience!
