A program for men and for women
Hormone replacement therapy at Montville MedSpa & Pain Center is not aimed at one sex. Men whose blood work confirms low testosterone are offered testosterone replacement therapy (TRT). Women are offered estrogen and progesterone therapy in perimenopause, through menopause and in the years that follow. Either way, nothing is prescribed until your levels have been measured.
How it can show up across one day
Hormone changes rarely announce themselves. They tend to arrive as a run of small complaints, each easy to blame on something else:
- In the small hours. For many women, a hot flash or a night sweat, and sleep that never quite comes back.
- In the early afternoon. For many men with low testosterone, energy that is spent long before the workday is over.
- At the desk. Brain fog and trouble concentrating, in either sex.
- At the gym. Muscle tone slipping for men despite steady training, and for women weight that has started settling around the middle.
- In the evening. A shorter temper, a lower mood and less interest in intimacy.
Every one of those can have another cause, and stress or age usually gets the blame first. That is why the day’s list is a reason to be tested, never a diagnosis on its own.
What testing settles
The first visit is a consultation in our Towaco office: what has changed, when it began, and a full health history. Hormone-sensitive cancers, blood clots and some heart and blood-vessel conditions, in you or your close family, can rule therapy out, so they are asked about before anything else. Lab work follows, and the results are read next to your symptoms. Sometimes the answer is that hormones are not the cause, and you are told so.
If treatment does suit you, you choose an injection, which allows precise and adjustable dosing, or a cream or gel used daily. Energy, mood and sleep are often the first things to shift, typically within two to four weeks, while libido, body composition and mental clarity tend to take two to three months. Repeat labs keep the dose in step with your levels.
The clinicians
Dr. Donna D’Alessio, MD, the physician who owns the practice, oversees every plan; her board certification is in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. Nurse practitioner Tanya Santoro, NP-C specializes in hormone replacement therapy, with a particular focus on testosterone, and brings a background in emergency medicine, cardiology and primary care.
Getting to your follow-ups
Hormone care is a series of visits, so the route matters. Jacksonville Road does most of the work: reach it from the borough by the Paterson-Hamburg and Newark-Pompton Turnpikes and the Boulevard through Pompton Plains, then stay on it to Main Road in Towaco. Close to 15 minutes without traffic.
Pompton Lakes patients ask
Can my partner and I both be seen? Yes. Each of you has your own history, your own labs and your own plan.
Does insurance cover it? It varies widely. Some plans cover lab testing and certain prescription hormones, while others may not cover compounded preparations, so check with your insurer; our team can say what to expect to pay yourself.
Can I check my symptoms first? The 30-second hormone quiz is a quick start. Read how our in-office program works, or the full HRT page.

What Our Patients Say About Us
★★★★★
Shannon from the MedSpa is absolutely amazing! She took the time to really understand my skin and helped me figure out exactly what it needs. She recommended products that feel incredible on my skin and made the whole experience feel personalized. The room was so relaxing, and everything about the appointment was perfect. I’m someone who usually pushes off getting facials, but after finally getting one done, it was 100% worth it. Overall a 10/10 experience!
