One dose, seven days
Two weight-loss injections are prescribed at Montville MedSpa & Pain Center. Semaglutide copies GLP-1, a hormone the gut releases after eating; tirzepatide acts on GLP-1 and on a second receptor, GIP. Either one goes in once a week, so life on it quickly falls into a seven-day pattern, and knowing what each part of that week tends to bring makes the whole thing far easier to live with.
How a week usually runs
- Injection day. Keep it the same day every week, with a reminder on your phone. The dose goes under the skin of the stomach, thigh or upper arm.
- The day or two after. Side effects, mostly nausea, early fullness or a change in digestion, often arrive as a small wave now, most of all after a dose increase. Smaller plates, slower meals and stopping at the first sign of fullness help, and rich, fried or very sugary food is usually the hardest to manage.
- Midweek. A good stretch for walking and strength work, since part of any weight that comes off is muscle. Rifle Camp Park, most of which lies inside Woodland Park, has hiking trails and a fitness trail close to home. Keep protein at each meal and a water bottle within reach.
- The day before the next dose. Note how your appetite and stomach have been, ready for your check-in. If a dose was missed, follow the medicine’s instructions or call the office, and never take two to catch up.
Who else needs to know
Starting one of these medicines is worth mentioning outside this office as well:
- A surgical or sedation team. Food leaves the stomach more slowly on these medicines, and that matters for anesthesia.
- Whoever prescribed your pill. Tirzepatide can make oral contraceptives less effective after you start it and after each step up, so a backup or non-oral method is advised during those weeks.
- Your diabetes prescriber. Taken alongside insulin or another sugar-lowering medicine, shakiness, sweating or confusion can signal that your sugar has dropped too far.
- Your eye doctor, if you have type 2 diabetes and notice any change in your vision.
Before any prescription, our medical professionals review your health, goals and history. A personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN2 rules both medicines out, as does pregnancy.
Coming from Woodland Park
Route 46 west, Route 23 north and Mountainview Boulevard bring you to Route 202, and 202 runs through Lincoln Park to 624 Main Road in Towaco. That is roughly nine and a half miles, about 18 minutes without traffic, so a check-in fits around an ordinary working day.
Woodland Park patients ask
How much will I lose? Nobody can honestly promise a figure. It depends on where you start, how your body responds, how the dose progresses and what else changes alongside it.
Is it a medicine I stay on? It is generally treated as long term, because many people regain weight after stopping, and any change is decided with your provider.
Are there weekend check-ins? Saturdays, from 9 am to 1 pm.
